How many of us, intoxicated by having our first homepage, have tried cramming as many bells and whistles on it as possible? Well, I did, and perhaps you have, too. Trouble is, a cluttered homepage is not only unsightly - the cyberworld equivalent of a junk heap - it just doesn't function very well. Rule #1: NEVER OVERLAP! |
Yikes! Those thin green lines in the Homestead Editor are there for a very good reason: to enable you to insure that none of your Elements are overlapping. This page may not look so awful in the Editor - even with all that squished-into-place clipart - but on older browsers, it's guaranteed to be a shambles. For evidence, look no farther than that jumble of crossed green lines! |
Aah . . . that's much better. Those helpful lines are keeping a respectful distance from one another, and there's a good balance of imported images, Interactive and Branded Elements, and clipart. Evidently, the site owner realized that there was no reason why her index page should have to bear all the weight of her site, and that she could save some favorite features for other pages. |
Make sure that small text boxes are kept under control; if you see a line of text housed in an oversized box, grab the corner of the box with your cursor and push it into place to conform to the enclosed text. A text box does not have to be full in order to cause problems with overlapping. |
